Easy DIY Thanksgiving Wreath – Best Home Decor Project for Kid Craft Ideas

  • 1 med/large grape vine wreath
  • 6 bunches of fake fall leaves
  • 9 stems fresh Craspedia
  • 3 fake Black-capped Chickadees suitable for use in floral design [optional]
  • Scissors (or garden shears)

Fall Wreath 11

  1. Begin by pushing your “leaves” up on the “stem” so you can gather them together and make ’em pretty! Then, trim the “stem” so it’s just 2″-3″ long from the base of the leaf cluster.
  2. Insert your bunches of fake leaves into the wreath, being sure to space them out. If you wedge them between the vines, they should be quite secure!
  3. Next, trim the stems of your Craspedia to about 3″ and insert them in bunches of three around your wreath.
  4. Last, place your Chickadees around the wreath and secure them by wrapping their wire around the vines.

Cream Cheese Frosting Pumpkin Cake – Best Thanksgiving Dinner Food Recipe

  • Baking spray
  • 1 box spice cake mix (18.25 ounces)
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup milk (I use 2%)
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • Whole pecans

  • 8 ounces cool whip
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup, sifted confectionery sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 350o. Spray 2 – 9” round cake pans with baking spray. Pour a little of the spice cake mix into pans and shake to coat, tap excess into mixing bowl.
  2. Place cake mix, canned pumpkin, milk, canola oil, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl and blend until well combined. Check the sides and bottom of the bowl to be sure it’s well combined. Divide the batter evenly between the pans.
  3. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 28 minutes. Remove the pans from the oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes. Turn cakes out on to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  4. Place chopped nuts on a baking sheet and bake at 350o for about 2 minutes or just until you begin to smell them.
  5. Meanwhile beat cream cheese until soft, add sifted sugar, softened butter and vanilla. Once well combined use a spatula to hand mix the whipped topping.
  6. Once cakes are cool, spread frosting on bottom layer of cake. Sprinkle chopped nuts all over frosting. Place other layer on top of cake. Frost entire cake. Garnish top with whole pecans in pattern of your choice.

Simple Apple Marinated Baked Turkey – Best Easy Thanksgiving Dinner Food Ideas

  • 3 cups apple juice
  • 1 green apple, quartered
  • 1/2 navel orange
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 2 tablespoons fennel seeds
  • 4 tarragon sprigs
  • 1 medium bunch of thyme
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 8 sage leaves
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice berries
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup kosher salt
  • One 15-pound turkey, legs and breast separated (see Note)

  • 6 sticks unsalted butter (1 1/2 pounds), at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons chopped thyme
  • 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • 2 tablespoons chopped sage
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground pepper

  1. BRINE THE TURKEY In a pot, combine all of the ingredients except the turkey and add 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and add 12 cups of cold water. Let stand until cool. Add the turkey and refrigerate for 12 hours.
  2. Set a rack over a rimmed baking sheet. Remove the turkey from the brine and transfer it to the prepared rack; pat the turkey dry with paper towels and refrigerate it uncovered for 12 hours.
  3. MAKE THE HERB BUTTER In a medium bowl, blend all of the ingredients except the salt and pepper.
Set a clean rack over a clean baking sheet and set a large rack in a large roasting pan. Gently separate the turkey skin from the breast meat. Rub half of the herb butter over the breast meat under the skin.
  4. Spread the remaining herb butter all over the skin of the breast and legs; season with salt and pepper. Set the breast in the prepared roasting pan and tuck the wings under it. Transfer the legs to the prepared baking sheet. Let stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°. Roast the turkey for about 2 hours, basting every 15 minutes with the melted herb butter and tenting the breast with foil after 30 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer registers 165° in the thickest part of the breast and 180° in the inner thigh. Let rest for 30 minutes. Carve and serve.
NOTES Ask your butcher to separate the legs from the turkey.
